Tom Brenner

Tom is a gerontologist who specializes in dementia. He recently retired from the Department on Aging where he worked in The Community Care Program training homecare supervisors and provided support for elders to age in place.  Thirty years ago he began Brenner Pathways, a strength based, positive dementia care program that employs the Montessori Method and Philosophy. With his wife, Karen, Tom has traveled throughout the United States presenting workshops and key note speeches for groups such as  the Alzheimer’s Association, Visiting Angles, American Society on Aging, The Gerontological Society of America, The American Montessori Society. Tom is the co-author with Karen of two books: “You Say Goodbye and We Say Hello: The Montessori Method for Positive Dementia Care” and “The Montessori Method for Connecting to People with Dementia.”

Karen Brenner

Karen is a Montessori educator of many years who co-founded a Montessori school with an inclusion program for children who are deaf. She and Tom worked together to develop a  dementia program using her expertise in Montessori. They have trained staff in long term care homes, adult day centers and memory clinics throughout the United States. 

She is the co-author with Tom of two books about their dementia care program. Karen has also authored two novels, “Appaloosa Sky” and “Trinity Rivers Trilogy”.
